Special Education Parent Coaching

Parenting a child with an IEP often requires navigating far more than typical parenting demands. Families are asked to interpret complex educational plans, advocate within school systems, and support children with learning, emotional, or behavioral challenges—often without clear guidance on how to carry that support into daily life at home.

Parent coaching offers a bridge between school and home, helping families create consistent, structured environments that support a child’s success across settings. When home routines align with school-based interventions, children experience greater stability, improved regulation, and increased confidence.

With over a decade of experience as an Educationally Related Mental Health Specialist (ERMHS) counselor within a K–8 public school district, Liza brings a deep understanding of the special education system. Her work is informed by extensive participation in IEP meetings and close collaboration with families, educators, and multidisciplinary teams. This perspective allows her to translate school-based plans into practical, sustainable strategies that work in real life.

Coaching is both supportive and action-oriented—meeting families where they are while building the tools needed to create calmer, more predictable home environments. Each plan is customized to fit the unique needs of every family.

Areas of Focus:

  • Aligning home routines with school-based supports

  • Emotional regulation and behavior management

  • Collaboration with teachers and IEP team

  • Translating classroom strategies into home practice

  • In-home support to establish structure and consistency

  • Reducing parental stress and strengthening confidence

  • Partnership / marital conflict

  • Caregiver burnout or strain within the family system

  • Navigating the IEP process and school expectations
